DANIDA DRIP Project

The DANIDA project nears facing out in Lofa. This project that began in February 2007 is one of the most rewarding projects ADRA Liberia ever implemented despite the numerous challenges faced by management. This project has three main components such as Peace building and Reconciliation, Functional Adult Literacy and Shelter construction. This project key objectives and strategic approaches, which are best tailored to respond to individual beneficiary community needs as well as to ensure sustainability. Overall, this project seeks to address the psychosocial needs of 5256 vulnerable in 50 communities affected by the war in restoring hope.

Peace Education

A total of 51 peace vector were trained as mentor/facilitators and empowered to foster peace education awareness at community level. This intervention has made a tremendous impact on the lives of people by reducing sexual coercion, violence, conflicts and increasing avoidance of other unhealthy societal behaviors.

DANIDA has provided a total of 657 shelters to vulnerable family heads. 276 of the 657 shelters were constructed in Kolahun district and 381 in Foya district. In addition to the 657 shelters, two new schools constructed and two rehabilitated schools each having six classroom, two offices, a teachers lounge, a six room latrine and a hand pump. These schools were constructed/rehabilitated one in each of the targeted districts.

A package which includes 66 chairs for teachers, and Administrators, 8 office desk, 28 tables, text books, teachers and PTA training. A consignment of text books was also donated to Ministry Of Education. A little over 4000 students are benefiting from these schools. Currently, these schools are running with over 50 percent of its teachers working on a voluntary basis.
